Reuniting Humanity With Their Divinity...It's Time
Our future is in living in total synergy with Gaia, our precious earth. Here is a place to discuss and learn tips on how to live with alternative methods to our current systems. Some of us are searching to live off of existing energy grids and create or be a member of sustainable communities...some may already be there!
Alternative building and construction methods, Solar, Hydro and Eolien energies, organic and permaculture gardens, water catchments systems, landscaping, etc.
Welcome are all who seek to live this way or are currently doing so...

i am not yet "off" the power grid and living as i dream of...although i have greatly reduced my carbon footprint and practice "slow living", i dream of being totally self-sustained and autonomous on some beautiful land with water (well or springs, even water catchment)
i was a little closer years ago when i lived in the mountains of New Mexico, where i had built a small passive solar house i designed and raised my son (also had a Teepee on the land)...Due to extremely small budget, the house was somewhat unfinished and had a dirt floor, no plumbing, no running water, an out-house, etc. for eight years..but i was happy. The land though, was not conducive to having a garden and i also didn't "feel" good about sending my son to the junior high and high schools there...so we left, and now i find so frustrating being far from the way of life that truly resembles me and also is better for Gaia...
i feel like i made a kind of regression in moving here, totally seduced by being so close to the Mediterranean sea and being able to be a Mermaid everyday! (also having running water!)
i miss the ritual of making a fire everyday and keeping it's embers going..i miss the out-house with no door, just nature to look at while you're sitting on the thrown (plus the dogs that come and greet you so cheerfully when you're sitting there contemplating..;giggle)...i miss being in direct contact with nature and all her elements, sleeping out under the stars, dancing in the moonlight with the dogs or around the bonfire...
Anyway, i'm currently working on manifesting the perfect land with water (several acres preferably) where i can have a geodesic dome greenhouse and exploit solar, hydro and eolien technologies and be autonomous - i love the idea of living in a yurt and can see having several on the property to welcome visitors and woofers (but i know that laws are a big constraint in this idea...)
There are many alternative building methods that i love, including straw bale and rammed earth dwellings, earthships or even dome shaped abodes...
through all my research, the strong message i get is that there are three major criteria for living sustainably:
Water (of course)
Land that is inexpensive (due to the costs of setting up all the alternative power installations, etc...)
Community (it hinders one to be stuck in a place where people are not like minded and open to alternative lifestyles - having a community close by or living in one helps in so many ways, for support and sustenance)
Of course, after those, comes finding places that are well situated in direction, i.e.; south facing is better for passive and active solar...ground and soil properties, and where your water source comes from (being downstream from dams or industrial waste is detrimental)...finding states/countries that are open to alternative construction and building codes...
i will soon be posting interesting links and sharing more findings...
i welcome you all to do the same, and look forward to sharing exiting new (or ancient) ways of living!
