The Narayana Sukta, is a hymn on the Supreme Being as the Father of creation,
inconceivably transcendent and yet hiddenly present in the heart of everyone, being nearer
than even the nearest of things. This is a tiny but incisive form of meditation by which
the human spirit endeavours to commune with the Supreme Spirit.

Sahasraśhīrṣhaṁ Devaṁ Viśvāakśaṁ Viśvaśambhuvaṁ,
Aum , oh Eternal Being ,Narayana thousand headed and multi-eyed ,the imperishable


Viśhvaṁ Naārāyaaṇaṁ Devamakśharaṁ Paramaṁ Padam.
The supreme, The resplendent, The source of delight for the whole universe.



Viśhvataḥ Paramaam Nityaṁ Viśhvaṁ Naaraayangam Harim,
Oh Supreme Being Naaraayan, Oh Hari, you are the whole Universe,You are Eternal

Viśhvamevedaṁ Puruṣhastadviśhvamupajīvati.
The Omnipresent Absolute which destroys all sins.


Patiṁ Viśhvasyātmeśvaragï Shāśhvatagï Shivamachyutam,
Oh master of the universe, the Lord of all souls you are Shiva{auspicious}, Achyuta{indestructible}


Nāaraāyaṇaṁ Mahāajñeyaṁ Viśhvāatmānaṁ Paraāyaṇam.

Oh Nāaraāyaṇa you are Supreme object worthy of being known, the Soul of all beings, the
shelter unfailing

Nāaraāyaṇaḥ Paro Jyotiraātmā Nāaraāyaṇaḥ Paraḥ.
Narayana is the Supreme Light; Narayana is the Supreme one.


Nāaraāyaṇaḥ Paraṁ Brahma Tattvaṁ Nāaraāyaṇaḥ Paraḥ,
The Lord Narayana is the Reality/Truth,Narayana is the Supreme one

Yaccha Kiñchidjjagatsarvaṁ Dṛiśhyate Shrūyyate'pi Vāa,
Whatever all this universe is, seen or heard of—pervading all this,


Antarbahiścha Tatsarvaṁ Vyaāpya Nāaraāyaṇaḥ Sthitaḥ.
Situated inside and outside, All pervading s supreme the Eternal Divine Being (Narayana).


Anantamavvyayaṁ Kavigu Samudre'ntaṁ Viśhvaśambhuvam,

You are Limitless, Imperishable, Omniscient, residing in the ocean of the heart, the Cause
of the happiness of the universe,


Padmakośhapratīkāaśhagi Hṛidayaṁ Chāpyadhomukham.
Oh Nāaraāyaṇa you manifest yourself in the inside of the heart which is comparable to an
inverted bud of the lotus flower.


Adho Niṣhṭayāa VitasyāAnte Nābhyāamupari Tiṣṭhati,


Below the centre of the throat, and above the naval(i.e., the heart which is the relative seat of the manifestation of Pure Consciousness in the human being),


JvāalamāalAākulaṁ BhāAti Viśhvasyāayatanaṁ Mahat.
Effulges the Great Abode of the universe, as if adorned with garlands of flames.


Santatagï Shilābhistu Lambatyākośasannibham
Surrounded on all sides by nerve-currents (or arteries), the lotus-bud of the heart is suspended in an inverted position.


Tasyaānte Suṣhiragï Sookśhmaṁ Tasmin Sarvaṁ Pratiṣṭhitam.
In it is a subtle space (sushumna-nadi)and therein is to be found the Substratum of all things.


Tasya Madhye Mahaanagnirviśhvārchirviśhvatomukhaḥ,
In that space within the heart resides the Great Flaming Fire, undecaying, all-knowing, with tongues spread out in all directions,


So'grabhug Vibhajan Tiṣṭhan Aāhaaramajaraḥ Kaviḥ.
With faces turned everywhere, consuming all food presented before it, and assimilating it into itself.


Tiryagūrdhavamadaḥśhaāyī Raśhmayastasya Santataāḥ,
His rays, spreading all round, sideways as well as above and below,


Santaāpayati svaṁ Dehamāapaātatalamastakam,
Warm up the whole body from head to foot.


Tasya Madhye Vanhiśhikhāa Aṇīiyordhvāa Vyavasthitaḥ.
In the centre of That (Flame) abides the Tongue of Fire as the topmost among all subtle things.


Nīlatoyadamadhyasthaād vidyullekheva Bhaāsvarāa,
Brilliant like a streak of lightning set in the midst of the blue rain-bearing clouds, slender like the awn of a paddy grain,
