Namaste!
Here's a question for you all...

What characteristic defines something as being false/unreal/illusion??

Conversely, what defines truth/reality??

Such subject matters are explored thoroughly in ancient sanskrit literature, complete with effective nomenclature (sadly lacking in the english language). Looking forward to your replies! =)

1st question: what you know is not true
2nd question: truth is what you know as in intuition as in feeling
I just know that my own truth is that reality is an illusion of reality. To have any true knowledge or perception of what is reality or illusion is to be true to yourself, and the answers will come to you. Because, whether something is illusionary or not, it still exists because the thought of it is there, and all thoughts breed creation. If it's in your mind, it exists in reality. That's my take.
Real: Experience & energy.. seems to me that Source, light, sound and love could all fall under both of those categories, and pretty much make up everything else.. including illusions, even fear.

Illusion:
Great responses. I especially admire Todd's existential reasoning of 'experience' being a truth/reality.
Certainly 'tis. "I think therefore I am." =)

You didn't finish the illusion part... =S
Or is it a cryptic message? LOL!
Haha.. kind of cryptic I suppose.. Truthfully, after thinking of what constitutes "real", I sat on illusion for about 15 minutes.. anything I came up with, I could get to the root and find it still fell under experience, and was somehow interconnected with energy. I just couldn't get around it! But that is my own interpretation, of course.. many others will differ, and all will be correct via the wisdom and reason applied to arrive at such a conclusion. Much love and light!

SAT in sanskrit refers both to 'eternality' and 'existence'.
That which is real, is always so. Unreality and illusory things are thus due to being temporary. Our present bodies (eg.) are an illusion because in the unfathomable grand scheme of reality's eternality, something impermanent has no substance. Like a mirage for example.

SAT is one element of the Absolute Truth as defined in Vedic literature.
With SAT (existence/eternality/truth), CHIT (consciousness) is necessarily present... because existence infers an awareness of existence. Otherwise, without perception nothing really exists. Obviously we do exist, thus... SAT. Sat & Cit are interdependent qualities.

I'd love to ask another question of your goodness, the Starseeds.
What elements comprise consciousness?
Please discuss in the new thread here: "What defines consciousness?"
I like it! Makes sense.. my thought on the temporary was this.. if I experienced it, the experience became a memory of sorts. While I may forget it in time, it is still locked away somewhere as a memory, as something I experienced. Granted, the temporary thing itself didn't last, but the effects did.. hmmm.. so I guess that doesn't count then, because the effects of something are not the same as the thing itself. Well I'll be damned, haha.. thank you Acy! Learn something new everyday! I will think on the consciusness thread.. post after I munch on some trail mix.. brain food!
What is real beyond the scope of 3rd dimension perceptions is faith and intuition. Is there is a god or a Santa Claus. The answer is to me there is a Santa Claus that represents the positive emotions that people are capable of. I would rather believe in the Santa Claus and not beliece in. It is an embodiment of the positive of human emotions. It is a matter of Faith to see with your mind and heart what is real or not.

I am not great fan of this world but I can see the potential of the people. To answer your question I still believe in Santa Claus because he embodies hope, dreams, good will, love for everyone. To quit believing like losing faith in one another.
These replies are really yummy brain food =)
Thanks everyone!

Todd: "...after thinking of what constitutes "real", I sat on illusion for about 15 minutes.. anything I came up with, I could get to the root and find it still fell under experience, and was somehow interconnected with energy."

Good call. As you said, experience is real. So in a manner of speaking, anything you experience is real in the sense that it existed... although it is temporary. It can be stated that illusion is part of reality, and therefore true! But the real falsity is when/if we accept something temporary is having a substantial, permanent reality.
If someone sees a piece of rope at night and mistakes it for a snake, his perception is illusory... although the existence of snakes is real. In that context, illusory may mean mistaking something for what it's not.. for example, mistaking ones physical body to be ones actual self. The self DOES exist, but it isn't the body. The body also exists, but temporarily, and is therefore mirage-like.
Just some thoughts off the top of my head inspired by Todd & Troy.
Nice work. :)
Everything is real and natural because we are the cosmic source. Reality exists infinitely and without comparison, but the extent and depth to which we are able to perceive it varies in intensity/ purity depending on our evolutionary process :-)
