Hello everyone. I realize this is my first discussion and I wish it could be a more thought provoking/ or philosophical composition but everything is so overwhelming right now!

A little background... I am an Environmental Studies major in an undergraduate program; so naturally every day I have all these stories and massive amounts of information on how much of a crisis we really are in.  Now people have been deceived at such a grand scale every day that people question whether this whole "environmental movement" is not just another ploy to "control" people and take their money.

I get scientific facts thrown at me everyday about numerous topics including depletion of all the Earths natural resources, how the oceans are almost completely FISHED OUT.. (not a lie), how if we don't change the way we live within 5 years climate change will be irreversible and essentially humans will have caused their own demise.

I believe I have been put here to appeal to many different kinds of people on how we truly could all live in harmony if everyone started listening to each other, promoting truth, changing the way they lived, and really started to listen.

I get so much information thrown at me at all directions... through school, through my guides, through my higher self etc. and lately I have been extremely overwhelmed with the fact that I have ALL this information to share... but no one really seems to care to listen... truly listen.

My question: besides meditation and things of the like, how do you guys push on and not get overwhelmed with everything that is going on around us?  I see the change, I feel the change, I want to spread and expand peoples minds about the change!!  But maybe I am only one of a few.

Any words of wisdom?

I am so happy to share space with you all.

Namaste.

Hi Jessica,

I have the same problem, but for me my passion is health and nutrition (while also considering environmental factors too!).

I want to share some ways I spread ideas that may help...

One effective way I have found to influence others into caring is to lead by positive example. I started posting pictures of my groceries, food I make, my receipts, my grocery shopping list, where I shop, and I always bring plenty of delicious health food with me to my office, family events, etc (I never complain, I just bring more than enough to share with everyone!) - to show people that I really do "walk the walk". And it is easy, yummy, and cheap!

So my advice might be to you, to take action in your everyday life. And show others how easy and fun it is to make positive changes (without having to always point out the negative news).

Another thing. I have started to play the game "on their level". Sadly, most people are only interested in serving themselves and superficial things, so I communicate with them in that way. If I talk about eating a certain way for health or the environment or animal welfare, they do not listen.. if I talk about doing it to be skinny, they immediately do. So if anyone here ever sees me launch some campaign that seems superficial I probably have some sneaky (and good) ulterior motives! :)

Bottom line, and I know this because I am a marketing consultant for my career...

All people care about is "what's in it for me".

If you can answer that questions it will be very easy to get people to change. Most people don't care about how or the why they just care what they are going to get out of it

Lastly, remember to pivot. After noticing something is wrong figure out the opposite. Change you focus to "what do I want?", When you focus on the outcome that you want, often it will help the solutions appear.

Hope this helps

xoxo

Brooke:

This helps immensely!  I have always been told this, but the way you describe it hits too close to home for me as well; as I am trying to get many people in my life to eat healthier and be more informed about what they are eating.  You put this concept into words so accurately.  Thank you :) <3
