Hi all, just wondering what all of your favourite song lyrics are...

Some can be very poetic and can touch something deep inside when they resonate - for me I feel like the tune in which they are sung also helps.

What got me thinking about it was that I've recently stumbled across a new artist who plays pretty weird music, and I wouldn't normally like his kind of stuff, but some of the lyrics really strike a chord with me in a strange way.  Here's a couple of his songs:

And here's even a cover version I did of one of his songs in my new band:  https://soundcloud.com/cardiac-jack/lost-edge-feel-the-lightning-da...

This song gets me everytime.

I Don't Want To Be - Gavin Degraw

I don't need to be anything other
Than a prison guard's son
I don't need to be anything other
Than a specialist's son
I don't have to be anyone other
Than the birth of two souls in one
Part of where I'm going, is knowing where I'm coming from

I don't want to be
Anything other than what I've been trying to be lately
All I have to do
Is think of me and I have peace of mind
I'm tired of looking 'round rooms
Wondering what I've got to do
Or who I'm supposed to be
I don't want to be anything other than me

I'm surrounded by liars everywhere I turn
I'm surrounded by imposters everywhere I turn
I'm surrounded by identity crisis everywhere I turn
Am I the only one who noticed?
I can't be the only one who's learned!

Can I have everyone's attention please?
If you're not like this and that, you're gonna have to leave
I came from the mountain
The crust of creation
My whole situation-made from clay to stone
And now I'm telling everybody

I don't want to be [x4]

Was this the them tune to a TV show?  I recognise it a lot but can't place it!

Yeah Love the lyrics to the chorus listening to it properly now though :)

Defiantly Silent Lucidity by Queensryche It's about Ascension

Hush now don't cry
Wipe away the teardrop from your eye
You're lying safe in bed
It was all a bad dream
Spinning in your head
Your mind tricked you to feel the pain
Of someone close to you leaving the game of life
So here it is, another chance
Wide awake you face the day
Your dream is over
Or has it just begun?
There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run to in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize it and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind
Commanding in another world
Suddenly, you hear and see
This magic new dimension
I will be watching over you
I am gonna help you see it through
I will protect you in the night
I am smiling next to you, in silent lucidity

Visualize your dream
Record it in the present tense

Put it into a permanent form
If you persist in your efforts
You can achieve dream control
Dream control
How's that then, better?
Dream control
Dream control (hug me)
Dream control
Hug me

If you open your mind for me
You won't rely on open eyes to see
The walls you built within
Come tumbling down, and a new world will begin
Living twice at once you learn
You're safe from pain in the dream domain
A soul set free to fly
A round trip journey in your head
Master of illusion, can you realize
Your dream's alive, you can be the guide but
I will be watching over you
I am gonna help you see it through
I will protect you in the night
I am smiling next to you

Well my fav ones are in my local lang so I cant tell them so well....

it's about a girl who tries to marry a man, but she doesnt have the right clothing, so she is refused by him, she needed the crocodile on the clothing, near the heart. And something about the designers wanting us to walk with 100 bills on.

also like Pink...

This always resonated with me:

WISE MAN - by Frank Ocean

Wiseman closed his mouth
Madman closed his fist
Young man shows his age
Judge man named it sin
Bad man don't exist, no
No evil man exists
Good man don't exist, no
No righteous man exists
Sad man cannot cry in place where man can see
Never witnessed his father weep
This old man thought it weak
But strong man don't exist
No undying man exists
Weak man don't exist, no
Just flesh and blood exists
But your mother would be proud of you
I bet your mother would be proud of you

The beast will crawl this earth
Then fall in the dirt to feed the crows
They'll rip apart his flesh
'Till all that's left is glorious bone
So you'll bury your own
Too vain
You saw it unfold
What you know
And you claimed all you could hold
Until death did you part from the mess you made
I bet your mother would be proud of you
I bet your mother would be proud of you

Primate sharpens tool
To survive and thrive in the jungle
Maybe hearts were made to pump blood
Maybe lungs were made for flood
I won't blunt my blade for cut these chains
Rather let my limbs be drug through mud
You're my brother but your eyes are cold
You're my sister but your womb is bare

I bet our mother would be proud of you
I bet our mother would be proud of you

Bad man don't exist
No evil man exists
I know good man don't exist
No righteous man exists
Strong man don't exist
No undying man exists
Weak man don't exist
No just flesh and blood exists

Great lyrics.

And a song I don't think I'd heard before... Thanks!

"In Power We Entrust The Love Advocated"

Sail on silver wings, through this storm
What fortune love may bring,
Back to my arms again the love of a former golden age.
I am disabled by fears concerning which course to take,

For now that wheels are turning I find my faith deserting me.
This night is filled with the cries of dispossessed children in search of paradise.
A sign of unresolved ambition drives the pin wheel on and on.
I am disabled by fears concerning which course to take,

When memory bears witness to the innocents consumed in dying rage.
The way lies through our love.
There can be no other means to the end,
Or the keys to my heart you will never find.

Originally by Dead Can Dance, Chandeen did a lovely cover that I actually prefer.  It never fails to lift my spirits. :)

I love Sarah McLachlan's songs : ) Here are a few of her lyrics that stuck with me:

- Though I've tried I've fallen, I've sunk so low, I have messed up, better I should know
- We all begin with good intent, our love was raw and young, we believed that we could change ourselves, the past could be undone; but we carry on our backs the burden and time always reveals the lonely light of morning, and the wound that would not heal, it's the bitter taste of losing everything that I held so dear...

- How stupid could I be, a simpleton could see, that you're no good for me, but you're the only one I see.
- Love has made me a fool, set me on fire and watched as I floundered.
- but you come around, create an oasis that dries up as soon as you're gone, and leaves me here burning in this desert without you.

When the stars have all gone out
You'll still be burning so bright

Also, I like "I can't make you love me" from Bonnie Raitt:
- Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
'Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't...

And all of Adele's songs basically ahah!

Don't You Remember:
When was the last time you thought of me?
Or have you completely erased me from your memories?
I often think about where I went wrong
The more I do, the less I know

All I Ask:
No one knows me like you do
And since you're the only one that matters
Tell me who do I run to?

When We Were Young:
It's hard to admit that
Everything just takes me back
To when you were there
And a part of me keeps holding on
Just in case it hasn't gone
I guess I still care
Do you still care?

Water under the bridge:
Oh, honey, if I'm not the one for you
Why have we been through what we have been through?
If you're gonna let me down, let me down gently
Don't pretend that you don't want me
Our love ain't water under the bridge.

And I love "Say Something" by A Great Big World:
Say something, I'm giving up on you.
I'll be the one, if you want me to.
Anywhere, I would've followed you.
Say something, I'm giving up on you.

Also "Pair of Wings" by Justin Timberlake:
And if I had a pair of wings
I’d pick you and fly you far away form here
And we’d fly so high up in the sky
Where the stars are so clear
And then I could save you
From the troubles of the world
And all you’d have to pack is your heart to bring
And there we are, you and me
Flying on a big ol’ pair of wings

Stardust by Nat King Cole:
And now the purple dusk of twilight time
Steals across the meadows of my heart
High up in the sky the little stars climb
Always reminding me that we're apart

You wander down the lane and far away
Leaving me a song that will not die
Love is now the stardust of yesterday
The music of the years gone by

Ok so I guess I like nostalgic sad songs basically! xD
