Hi all, just wondering what all of your favourite song lyrics are...

Some can be very poetic and can touch something deep inside when they resonate - for me I feel like the tune in which they are sung also helps.

What got me thinking about it was that I've recently stumbled across a new artist who plays pretty weird music, and I wouldn't normally like his kind of stuff, but some of the lyrics really strike a chord with me in a strange way.  Here's a couple of his songs:

And here's even a cover version I did of one of his songs in my new band:  https://soundcloud.com/cardiac-jack/lost-edge-feel-the-lightning-da...

My favorite song since I was 15 or 16, even though I had not personally experienced what he was talking about. Now I know why I was so drawn to it. Still my favorite.

Tool - Reflection

I have come curiously close to the end, down
Beneath my self-indulgent pitiful hole,
Defeated, I concede and
Move closer
I may find comfort here
I may find peace within the emptiness
How pitiful

It's calling me...

And in my darkest moment, fetal and weeping
The moon tells me a secret - my confidant
As full and bright as I am
This light is not my own and
A million light reflections pass over me

Its source is bright and endless
She resuscitates the hopeless
Without her, we are lifeless satellites drifting

And as I pull my head out I am without one doubt
Don't wanna be down here soothing my narcissism.
I must crucify the ego before it's far too late
I pray the light lifts me out
Before I pine away.

So crucify the ego, before it's far too late
To leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical,
And you will come to find that we are all one mind
Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable.
Just let the light touch you
And let the words spill through
And let them pass right through
Bringing out our hope and reason...
before we pine away.

Just listened and enjoyed this very much - thanks for sharing.

Very nice lyrics - 'As full and bright as I am
This light is not my own and
A million light reflections pass over me' was my favourite part I think :)

Blind Melon - change. Ive always listened to this song when Ive needed courage to remain true to my authentic self. I really like the acknowledgment of fear i this song because it sits so close to the truth.

OM unit - the road. I have mixed feelings about this song, at first I thought it very negative and the more I listened the more I realised it wasnt. There is one line that gets me everytime and its about the seriousness of the truth.

And lastly, for poetic and beautiful lyrics... i like Deepak Chopra - desire. Its romantic but its also about the power of manifestation and how we are all interconnected anyway.

I'm sure more will come to me...but they were the first to pop into my head.

I love change by Blind Melon... Great song.

And Deepak Chopra has some excellent lyrics too - simple but poetic.

I'll have to have a proper listen to Om Unit too ;)

I love om unit... especially some of the instrumental stuff, but not really applicable here... I'm going to be thinking about this for days now trying to think of songs!

My favourite artist ever is probably LCD Soundsystem. He has some amazing lines in some of his songs too:

'You might forget the sound of a voice, still you should not forget the things that we laughed about' - from this song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBpl8YH9cjQ

'I wouldn't trade one stupid decision for another five years of life', from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw-nYD0GQwI - a song which always reminds me of my old best friends from dancing along to it in an indie club

And many more that I can't remember right now...

My favourite song is always changing but a favourite artist for the last few years has been Tallest Man on Earth. Field of Birds is a song I've been listening to on repeat for the past few weeks, along with the Wild Hunt.

Field of Birds

A little bird

Came right up to me

Found a thread, oh
Hanging from my sleeve

Then he flew up high
Until I fell apart
Stitches, they all flew, oh
From what hid my heart

So then a little girl
Came and found my bones
She built a man, oh
She should have made him watch

As the meadowlark
Found that needle's eye
As he made that patch, oh
For my broken sky

And so the winter night
Came down to our hands
Trying to steal, oh
What could soothe a man

Yes and still I knew
That old dark was mine
And it's fading out, oh
Every star I find

And so... By the day
Little girl and I
Shook all trees, oh
To see what would fly

And it's times like these
There's no need for words
I just need to find, ohhhhh...
I need a field of birds

The Wild Hunt

There is a crow moon comin' in well you keep looking out
It is the hollow month of march now sweeping in
Lets watch phenomenon's that rise out of the darkness now
Within the light she is my storming heroin
And old machine's abandoned by the ancient racists and
I hear them hummin' down below and hollow earth
Oh hell I guess I know no while I will go under to
But just for now I let the spring and storm return
I left my heart to the wild hunt a-comin'
I live until the call
And I plan to be forgotten when I'm gone
Yes I'll be leavin' in the fall
And I will sleep out in the glade just by the giant tree
Just to be closer when my spirit's pulled away
I left a nervous little boy out on the trail today
He's just a mortal to the shoutin' cavalcade
I left my heart to the wild hunt a-comin'
I live until the call
And I plan to be forgotten when I'm gone
Yes I'll be leavin' in the fall
Let's open up the windows have Satan departin' now
And we'll be even when the blues fall down like hail
Hell I don't even care no more about cadejo now
If he's a white one or a black one on the trail
I left my heart to the wild hunt a-comin'
I live until the call
And I plan to be forgotten when I'm gone
Yes I'll be leavin' in the fall
Yes I'll be leavin' in the fall

Just listened. Very nice :) Thank you

To the moon and back ~ Savage Garden.

I love the lyrics , from back in the 90s :)

Was never a Savage Garden fan to be honest but have to admit that song has some great lyrics. Pretty melancholy without being depressing...

AURORA "Black Water Lilies"

When I am on a boat
I float I know I can never drown
I see underwater land
The wind, the wind is the only sound

Take your hand and I go under
I'm under and above
Take your hand and I go under
I'm under and above

On the river
I'm floating in
Underwater
I'm diving into the ocean
A thousand black water lilies

In the river
I'm floating in
Underwater
I'm diving into the ocean
A thousand black water lilies

Black water lilies

Arms are reaching for
My arms I can see no more
We dance as we float around
We head towards the ocean floor

Take your hand and I go under
I'm under and above
Take your hand and I go under
I'm under and above

On the river
I'm floating in
Underwater
I'm diving into the ocean
A thousand black water lilies

In the river
I'm floating in
Underwater
I'm diving into the ocean
A thousand black water lilies
A thousand black water lilies

I am warm
Crawling out
I am reborn

Water lilies
Water lilies
Water lilies
Water lilies

I only got introduced to Aurora recently, and actually by somebody else on this site. I've listened to All My Demons several times over since then :)
